American Historical Images, LLC as authorized by the Hawley Library Association, Inc. has meticulously preserved a large collection of Louis Hensel´s work from the latter part of his career through cataloging, scanning and producing archival prints of the images. In collaboration with Silver Images, owner Ray Smicker, a professional black and white photographic printer for over 40 years, these images have been brought out of their hidden boxes and have been given a rebirth for new generations to enjoy.
These stunning museum-quality pigment-on-paper prints, often referred to as “giclée” prints, reveal the detailed beauty of Louis Hensel´s work. This type of printing connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. The images are generated from high resolution scans from the original glass negatives and printed with archival quality inks onto archival paper.
Each print has a 2” to 3” white boarder around the image which contains an imprint of the photographer´s name, photograph credits and image number.
Our process uses only the best available state-of-the-art archival materials and procedures to create these superb quality images. This archival process is expected to protect the image for 100+ years. Careful handling, proper presentation and protection from UV light source will help to ensure this preservation. Like all original photographs or photographic works on paper, do not touch the surface of the print or the image area. Fingerprints, abrasion or scuffing may mark or damage the print surface.
We recommend not placing the image in the direct path of sunlight or other harsh conditions. The aid of UV protection glass or acrylic will extend the life of the print.
Please note this print has been packaged for delivery in a clear acid-free film envelop that is archival and will not damage the print. The supporting backer board is made of an acid-free material. For framing or long term storage, we recommend that you use acid-free materials like full cotton rag mat board. Consult with a qualified framer for more advice.
Special orders can be accommodated, please contact us for larger sized prints and additional pricing.
We hope that you enjoy your print as much as we have enjoyed the process of bringing it back to life.
